AdriaArray Workshops

ORFEUS (and EPOS via the EPOS SP project, Task 4.3) has supported the organisation of AdriaArray (AdA) workshops since 2020.

  • An AdriaArray Splinter meeting took place during the EGU GA 2024 on April 17th. - Announcement

  • The fourth international AdriaArray workshop was held in Sofia, Bulgaria, on 12-15 March 2024. The event was attended by more that 100 people. The program, along with copies of the oral and poster presentations, is available here.

  • An AdriaArray Splinter meeting took place during the EGU GA 2023 on April 27th. - Announcement

  • A third international AdriaArray workshop sponsored by EPOS SP was organised in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on 3-5 April 2022. The program is available here (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/SvzUkK8x5NQtZWY) and most of the oral and poster contributions are archived here (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/X3oz1uxbUbC3Lbo). The workshop was attended by 90 people, including 25-30 key participants financially supported using EPOS SP funds. Remote virtual participation was not organised in this case. The workshop counted with financial support from EPOS SP and local support by Uni. Zagreb. Once again, the workshop was an excellent opportunity to strengthen the AdriaArray community and to kick-off the crucial discussion on the establishment of the working groups and Collaborative Research Groups contemplated by the AdriaArray MoC (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/zOhxUOEPwnyA2mp). The workshop was followed by a community meeting at EGU 2023 (https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU23/session/47742) attended by about 30 people onsite and 15 people online, targeting community members who could not travel to Dubrovnik: a summary of the status of the initiative was provided, along with the outcome of the workshop in Croatia, and the final version of the AdriaArray project logo was presented and approved (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/xTc0YoHryJEJQrf).

  • A second international workshop was organised in Potsdam, Germany, on 6-7 October 2022. The program is available here (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/oylgapO5vuKW9zu) and most oral and poster presentations are available here (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/IrAUN9bplQeCPLC). The workshop was attended in person by about 80 people (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/sZLAY66z7nvjoRp) including 20-25 EPOS SP sponsored participants, while nearly 100 colleagues registered for online participation (https://polybox.ethz.ch/index.php/s/uhfkiaZbtdWAVa6). The workshop included an extended demo of the EPOS data portal and a round table discussion on the ongoing and future synergies among AdriaArray, EPOS & ORFEUS. The recently prepared white paper on “AdriaArray: Revealing Earth Structure, Geodynamics and Causes of Geohazards in the Central Mediterranean” was presented in the plenary session and in the parallel session on AdriaArray communication and outreach. The workshop was organised by ORFEUS with financial support from EPOS SP and local support by GFZ. The workshop was an excellent opportunity to:

      1. strengthen the relationships among the AdriaArray community members now that field work in the region has finally started;

      1. promote, present and discuss the portfolio of EPOS services to scientists & data providers in the AdriaArray region.

  • Three virtual workshops were organised in May 2021, November 2021 (joint session of the ORFEUS Annual Workshop and the AlpArray Science Meeting), May 2022 (splinter meeting at EGU, Vienna) focused on the establishment of the AdA seismic network and seismological component of the initiative.

  • The AdriaArray kick-off meeting, where the whole concept was initialized, was held on 27th and 28th May 2019 in Thessaloniki, Greece. Open questions and scientific aims of the AdriaArray initiative were presented and discussed among around 20 participants. The planning of the AdriaArray Seismic Network started right after the meeting based on contacts and cooperation established in Thessaloniki.

    • The program of the meeting can be found here.
